Hanging Art Using the Contemporary Cable System

Most of the time, we hang art the old-fashioned way: by attaching it to a wall with the appropriate picture-hanging hardware. But sometimes, we get requests to hang art in other ways, whether it’s to avoid damaging a specially-treated wall, or to achieve a certain aesthetic. One of the most common requests we get for alternative installation methods is hanging art using the contemporary cable system, a mode the suspends art from the ceiling using modern-looking wire cables.

The contemporary cable system is a great option for homeowners with wood-finished or other specially treated walls. ILevel recently used it to hang art in such a home, below.

We used the system on another home with similar walls earlier this year.

Here’s a close-up of the cables.

Besides wood-paneled walls, hanging art from cables is also a great option for renters who don’t want to put a ton of holes in the walls of their home, or those who live in spaces with brick or plaster walls that are hard to drill into.
