ILevel recently worked with an interior design team out of Las Vegas on a decidedly cool apartment on Mercer Street in SoHo. The design scheme was typical of loft homes in the neighborhood-it was to be hip, clean and modern, and that included the art. We were hired to hang three dozen (that’s right, 36!) of Damien Hirst’s iconic spot paintings to create a contemporary gallery wall in the living room. The end result was pure fun, and just the right backdrop and pop of color for the current space, which would house mostly white furniture.
First, we had to unpack the paintings. (The importance of this step can’t be underestimated when dealing with valuable art!) and carefully laid them out on the floor. This project was unique for ILevel in that the decorator working on the apartment had a map of how the art should be positioned, so we didn’t have to do much arranging, something we typically do ourselves. That turned out to be a very good thing, since juxtaposing the pieces can be a time consuming process, and the designer was working with time constraints.
Below, an ILevel employee and the unpacked art.
After everything was unpacked, the art was hung on cleats on the wall, according to the map.
The finished gallery wall complimented the room perfectly.
