We had the pleasure of working with friend of ILevel Nicola Stephenson recently on her collaboration with Los Angeles based street artist Mr. Brainwash. Nic created It’s A Thing, a new organization focused on changing perceptions and raising funds for head and neck cancer. 60,000 people are diagnosed with head and neck cancer each year, yet many Americans have little to no knowledge of this disease.

The inaugural event for It’s A Thing was a visual art experience of Mr. Brainwash’s work that took over 10,000 square feet of the iconic Starrett-Lehigh building.

All of the art in the exhibit pays homage to the vital functions made possible by the head and neck. Walking through the galleries you’ll see sculptures of headless angels, neon lights with positive messages like “Keep Smiling,” over-sized, multi-colored gumballs, and typewriters inviting viewers to sit down and tap away. ILevel installed many pieces in the exhibit, including the gallery wall seen below.

Net proceeds from the exhibit will be donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. “Since my fight with head and neck cancer just two and a half years ago, I have been eager to give back to the incredible specialists at MSK that supported me throughout my journey,” Stephenson explains.
