Preventing Art Theft With Security Hardware

It seems like every few months there’s a story in the news about art theft. Sometimes it involves a major work and a high profile museum, other times it’s about a sentimental work taken from the wall of a restaurant. If you’re currently in the process of decorating a commercial space, hotel or office building, preventing art theft, unfortunately, is something that should be considered.

One of the best ways of preventing art theft is with security hardware. Using the correct method of installing you art can make it very difficult to steal. At ILevel, whenever we work on a commercial or hospitality project, we recommend using it. Security hardware essentially “locks” the art to the wall.

The first method that can be used to secure art to the wall is with a t-screw. This type of system uses a screw that only fits through the bracket when turned in a certain direction. So, once the screw is turned perpendicular to the bracket, it is locked in place.

Another securing method uses interlocking aluminum brackets, one of which has a spring-loaded tab that locks the art in place once the brackets are put together.
