Now Trending: African Mud Cloth Wall Art

Every few years or so a major wall art trend emerges, and suddenly we find ourselves hanging dozens of typography-inspired prints, or ink-blot art, or marquee signs around New York. Recently, we’re seen an explosion in art made from African Mud cloth, and we’re calling it the next big wall art trend.

Tribal-inspired style has been a big trend for a while now, so it was only a matter of time before these beautiful ethnic textiles, also known as Bògòlanfini caught on like wildfire. The fabrics are traditionally made in Mali, Africa with inks from dyed mud, hence their name. They’ve been used widely in homes and fashion around the world, but are having a major moment in decor right now.  If you’re an interiors enthusiast, you’ve probably seen mud-cloth throw pillows, and textiles inspired by the prints, but we love the turn toward using the cloth as wall art. The majority of the pieces we’ve seen are simply framed and mounted on the wall.
