How to Create A Salon Wall, ILevel’s Tips in the New York Times

ILevel was recently featured in a New York Times article about one of our bread and butter services, salon wall installations. Founder David Kassel, provided tips from our professional art installers. It’s always fun to revisit this topic, as it’s one of our favorites. Here are some of the best tips from the article, offered by David along with staff members from MOMA and Christie’s.

Embrace slow art: Don’t rush to put up a salon wall. Wait until you’ve got a collection that feels truly curated and special to you.

Mix your media: The most compelling salon installations we’ve seen include a mix of photography, paintings, drawings and 3-D pieces tied together by frame style or color.

Think creatively about location: If you’ve got a large wall on which to feature a gorgeous salon, great. For the space challenged, use hallways, bathrooms, and the spaces around windows and cabinets to create intimate salon installations.

Choose your style: Relaxed or formal? Your answer to this question, will direct you to a free flowing salon style or a grid arrangement.

Enlist the help of a professional: If you’re not comfortable with a level, drill, and hammer, you might consider calling ILevel.
