One of the great things about being an art lover in New York city is the number of world class art fairs hosted in our city each year. From the Armory show, to the Outsider Art Fair, to ArtExpo and more, New Yorkers are spoiled when it comes to art shows. Case in point being this weekend: Three of New York City’s Best Contemporary Art Fairs are taking place at once, this weekend. So not only do you have one fair to choose from, you’ve got three. Here’s a quick rundown of each one.
1. PULSE Contemporary Art Fair: This biannual show happens once in Miami and once in New York each year. From May 9-12, PULSE is setting up shop in the Metropolitan Pavilion at 125 W 18th St. Established and emerging contemporary art galleries come from around the world to show here-including exhibitors from Tokyo, Rome, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong, as well as Boston, Los Angeles, the Hamptons, Philadelphia and more. The event will also feature original lectures and programming.
2. Frieze Art Fair: If you’ve never been to Randall’s Island, here’s a reason to go explore it: The second annual Frieze Art Fair is taking place there this weekend, from May 10-13. Frieze will feature 180 galleries representing more than 1,000 artists from around the world. Visitors are also encouraged to participate in Frieze talks, a series of debates, panels, discussions and keynote talks.
3. PooL Art Fair: Somewhat less hyped, but equally worth visiting is the PooL Art Fair, which takes place from May 10-12 at the Flatiron Hotel. Formerly known as the New York Independent Art Fair, the show acts as a platform for hundreds of unrepresented artists, in addition to offering curated exhibitions and programming throughout the weekend.
