Professional Art Hanging: When To Call the Pros

There’s a huge trend toward DIY in home decor (and everything else, it seems) these days. People have information at their fingertips–how to articles, blogs dedicated to the art of DIY, instructional videos on YourTube. Many think a Saturday afternoon spent learning a new skill and putting it into practice is a worthwhile tradeoff to hiring a professional. And many times, it is. DIY can yield fabulous results. However, no matter how skilled a craftsman you are, there are certain times when, if you want something done right, you just can’t do it yourself.

So when do you need professional art hanging? Here, a few situations you might want to call in an expert.

1. You have a large piece of art you want to hang. If you’re hanging a large piece, there are a number of factors that must be considered, from where the art will work best visually, to where it can hang so that it will be structurally supported and making sure it’s secure to the wall. Professionals can help you choose a spot where your art will complement your room, as well as one where it will also be supported and safe.

2. You’re hanging an expensive piece. If you own expensive art, you want to make sure it’s properly protected.  Professional art installers can basically “lock” your art to your wall, ensuring its safety.

3. You have a lot of pieces to hang. Whether you just moved into a new home and you aren’t sure where to hang which piece, or you’re trying to create a large gallery wall with lots of smaller photos, a professional can arrange your art so it has impact and balance.

4. You have small children. As we mentioned, the pros can secure  your art to your wall, which is also a great idea for people with small children. You won’t have to worry about your kids accidentally pulling a piece of pottery down on top of themselves, or knocking a painting off the wall. A professional art hanging job will give you piece of mind that your children (and your art) are both safe.

5. You’re looking for perfection. If you want to evenly hang multiple pieces in a row, or create a wall gallery that is perfectly symmetrical, it’s often a good idea to have professional art hanging done. Getting pictures to hang perfectly in line with one another, and spaced out evenly can be a frustrating process that takes time to get right, so if you’re not up for possibility of tedious work, a professional will be your best best.
