New Year’s resolutions don’t have to be hard. They don’t have to be about health or fitness, or weight loss or self-improvement. They can be fun, small ways to improve your life and your surroundings. So why not start with your space? More specifically, your walls. Giving your walls a makeover is one of the easiest ways to switch up the look of your home. Here are five of our favorite ways to spruce up your walls for the New Year.
1. Paint: It’s an obvious solution, but hands down one of the most effective ways to change the entire feel of a room. Liven up just one wall with an accent color that complements your décor, or try a lacquered version of the paint color you already have.

2. Wallpaper: Wallpaper has been having a moment over the last few years, and 2014 will be no different. You can go bold with a large-scale print in a bright color combination, or more subtle, with a toille or small print in a neutral scheme. One of our favorite places to experiment with wallpaper? Powder rooms.

3. A statement art piece: Need something to tie your room together? Art is a great way to do that. Choose a piece in your color scheme or in a similar style to your décor to bring things together, or choose something slightly off to give balance to a space that feels too “done” or matchy-matchy.

4. A gallery wall: There’s no easier way to instantly add style to a room. A gallery wall can be as simple as a grouping of a few of your favorite photos and prints, or it can go beyond that and have a certain theme, color scheme, or shape.
