Digital Artist Cory Archangel at the Whitney Museum in New York

Cory Arcangel - Sharper Image 3-1
In his latest show Pro Tools, NYC digital artist Cory Archangel is up to many fun shenanigans at the Whitney Museum. As it prepares for the big move downtown to the High Line and the Meatpacking district, the Whitney is looking for a little of the downtown flavor with this solo show of a young digital artists work. Here is a video of Cory speaking about his work at the opening, which probably isn’t the best venue for a tour, but whatever. I’ve always loved Cory’s work and thought this show was great. The self-playing bowling games were definitely the stars of the show, a pitch perfect send-up of the design of uselessness that pervades so much of our visual life. His 2D works are more of a joke though, which is the point, but I wonder if they are as good as his kinetic and internet pieces. Roberta Smith, in the New York Times, thought the show wasn’t very good, but still, I enjoyed it.
