Creative Ideas for Your Gallery Wall

If you’ve spent any time on Pinterest lately, then you know that gallery-style photo arrangements are everywhere—they’re a trend in design only rivaled right now by the likes of chevron textiles and lacquered ceilings. But, like any trend, omnipresence can make it seem stale. Here, a few creative ideas for your gallery wall that will keep the idea fresh.

1. Use objects
A gallery wall doesn’t have to be limited to pictures. Including objects can add interest to your gallery wall. Think unique mirrors, clocks, signs and even clothing or jewelry. In fact, you don’t even need photos at all. This collage, below, was made entirely from old wheels.

2. Play With Size and Scale
Consider making a bold statement by extending the gallery wall across an entire room. Or, cover a large space with a number of smaller pieces.

3. Think outside the walls
Galleries don’t just have to be reserved for walls. At ILevel, we’ve hung photos on windows and bookshelves, too. The floor-to-ceiling windows of the apartment, below, left minimal wall space for art. So, we hung the art over the windows, taking care not to block the views, but adding a decidedly personal, unique touch to the room.

4. Play with backgrounds
Who says a photo gallery has to hang on a white wall? This ILevel installation at a show house proves that sometimes, “busy” can be beautiful.
