The short answer? More than most people expect.
When people think about professional art installation, they usually picture an ornately framed painting going up on a living room wall. And yes, we install a lot of those. But that only accounts for a fraction of what ILevel is capable of, and what our team is ready for.
If it belongs on a wall, a ceiling, or a pedestal, there’s a good chance we’ve handled something like it.
The Full Range of What ILevel Installs
For over 30 years, ILevel has been called to install, well, just about everything. That includes:
- Individual works of art and photography
- Collections of art and family photos
- Mirrors
- Sculptures
- Japanese screens and other decorative panels
- Tapestries
- Prints
- Decorative plates
- Diplomas and certificates
- And quite a bit more
Each of these categories comes with its own requirements. That’s the part most people don’t see.
Every Piece Has Its Own Solution
A standard frame and a one-of-a-kind Japanese screen may end up on a wall next to each other, but installing them safely requires different skills and hardware.
Screens are delicate, and their wood is often warped by age. Collections of decorative plates require special mounting hardware. No two sculptures are alike in weight, balance, or footprint.
Even among seemingly identical frames, construction varies widely. For example, a piece framed with a French cleat needs a different approach than one with a wire or hooks.
And what about when we want to avoid installing into walls entirely?
We frequently install pieces that from the ceiling rather than the wall. When a client or designer wants artwork descending from wires attached to ceiling tracks, that’s a different set of calculations. It requires understanding the ceiling structure, the weight of the piece, and our specialized hanging materials.
And the end result has to look balanced & intentional.

The Wall Matters as Much as the Art
The wall is always on our mind. Drywall, plaster, concrete, brick: each requires different hardware and a different approach to ensure a secure installation.
What works in a modern apartment with standard drywall won’t necessarily work in a prewar building with thick plaster walls. And using the wrong hardware can mean disaster if it’s installed in the wrong place.
(We’ve written more about what goes into installing art on a brick wall if you’re curious.)
We assess the weight of each piece against what the wall can safely support. If something is too heavy for the wall to hold reliably, we’ll tell you. That kind of honesty is part of the job.
One detail that surprises some clients: we always hang pieces with two points of contact rather than one. It takes a little more finesse, and ensures a piece stays level & secure long after we’ve left the space.
Collections and Groupings
Some of our favorite projects involve groupings. Family photo walls, arrangements welcoming guests into an entryway, or a variety of pieces completing a large space. This is where the work becomes as much about composition as hardware.
We’re always happy to share our advice on arrangement and placement. We can work with you to find a layout that feels intentional and balanced. Making a lot of frames on a wall look cohesive is a skill in itself. You can see what it looks like in practice in our post on installing a family photo wall.
What We Don't Install
We focus exclusively on art installation. That means we don’t install televisions, shelving, or anything outside our scope. We also don’t move or ship art: our work begins when the piece arrives in your space and is ready to go up.
That focus is intentional. Doing one thing extremely well, for over three decades, is how we’ve built the reputation we have. You can see what that looks like on a real project in our post on ILevel’s work featured in Domino Magazine.
Who Calls ILevel
Our clients include interior designers, architects, and residents who call us directly. What they tend to have in common is that they care about getting it right. They’re thinking about the finished space, the way the art will live in the room, and the impression it leaves on anyone who walks in. That’s something we share.
Whether it’s a single special piece or an entire apartment’s worth of art, we bring the same care to every job.
