Art installation in Chelsea apartment living room featured in Domino Magazine

ILevel Art Installation Featured in Domino Magazine

When Domino Magazine comes calling, you know something special is happening. We were proud to assist Christine Muhlke, editor and culinary consultant, with an art installation project in her newly renovated Chelsea apartment. And even prouder to see the finished space in such a respected voice in home design.

You can read the entire article in Domino Magazine here: Everything Has a Story in This Culinary Consultant’s Chelsea Aerie—Even the Molding

Christine Muhlke is an editor and culinary consultant, and if you follow the food and design world at all, you know her name.

While on the apartment hunt, Christine discovered a somewhat neglected space at the top floor of a century-old apartment building. Upon first look, the apartment reflected its age. Domino notes that:

“…the space was in unlivable condition: destroyed floors, cramped ceilings, layers of crud. There was a distinct sense that not one thing had been updated over the several decades that the former tenant had lived there.”

But that didn’t deter Christine.

She took an apartment that most would have turned away from and completely transformed it. Her new home is modern, filled with light, and adorned with beautiful, personal details. Engineered white oak spans the floors, and complements her Dekton white countertops.

Getting the Gallery Wall Right

Above Muhlke’s custom-made bookshelf rests our favorite part of the home. Her gorgeous, eclectic gallery of artwork. Muhlke’s collection of artwork includes photographs by Vivian Maier, William Eggleston, Lee Friedlander, William Klein and Eadweard Muybridge; drawings by Elliott Puckette and Hugo Guinness; and a painting by Jamie Nares

Christine came to ILevel with a clear vision and a remarkable collection. She knew what she wanted the space to feel like, she just needed help translating that into a plan.

To make that plan, ILevel answered these questions:

  • Where does each piece go?

  • How do you balance frames of different sizes and media?

  • How do you create something that feels intentional and cohesive rather than cluttered?

We worked with Christine to map out the layout above her custom bookshelf, considering scale, spacing, and sightlines. Once the plan was locked in, we got to work hanging everything precisely, with no damage to the brand new walls.  A freshly renovated apartment deserves an installation team that treats it that way.

The result is a gallery wall that stops you in your tracks. It’s personal, considered, and beautifully executed. A perfect example of what professional gallery wall installation can do for a space.
